What are Recovery Adventure Tours?

Recovery Adventures (RA) is an answer to the question “I’m in recovery, now what?” Combining experiential therapy, travel,  yoga, meditation and adventure activities, the goal of RAs is to create an environment which facilitates recovery breakthroughs. Expanding your recovery to the next level.
I’m in recovery, getting healthier, now what?

Meet Jeffrey

The concept behind Recovery Adventure Tours grew organically out of my personal recovery experiences.  I was introduced to recovery in 2000 after my family (and the DEA) thought it would be a good idea for me to go to rehab.  I joined a 12 Step program, stayed sober and subsequently returned to graduate school to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and addiction specialist.  I’ve worked in every facet of addiction treatment from primary to residential to long-term settings. I’m a trained interventionist, have a wonderful private practice, and run Medication Assisted Recovery Centers (MARC) around New Orleans, LA. But I still want more from my recovery!

Great! Good for you! Now what?

In the Fall of 2017, I took a three month sabbatical and traveled throughout Southeast Asia. It was there that my recovery was thrust into another level. I studied scuba diving and it completely blew my mind. I rode motorcycles in the mountains of northern Thailand where I stumbled upon a Buddhist teaching monastery and studied there for a week. I sat quietly gazing on the most beautiful sunsets I’ve ever seen. In short, I found activities which were mindfulness in practice. I had finally found the state of presence and connection to the now which I have sought through yoga, prayer and meditation. I was also filled with the desire to share these types of moments with others in recovery. That desire became Recovery Adventure Tours!

Who can go on RA?

RAs are geared to different groups.  Some tours are for people young people (18-26ish) getting out of 30-90 day treatment (Early Recovery trips).  Other tours are geared towards people in mature recovery (2+ years) who feel like they have plateaued in their recovery.  In addition, specialty trips are in the works (couples, trauma focused, etc)

What do you do if someone relapses on the trip?

Relapse is a part of many peoples story, and can be used as a teaching moment. I approach relapse without guilt or shame, choosing instead to help people identify their triggers and symptoms of relapse.

What's the cost and what does it cover?

The cost of RA is dependent which location and adventure we plan to have!  Cost includes all therapy and counseling, adventure activity (eg scuba, entrance fees), breakfast and dinner, transportation, all lodging and any equipment rentals. Airfare is not included.

What's not included?

Food and beverages outside of breakfast and dinner, snacks, nicotine products, cigarettes/cigars,  or souvenirs, medical costs and  Scuba certification courses. Airfare is not included.

• Recovery of at least 90 days
